Rotring Trio Variants

There was a time when I was looking for my first vintage trio. I thought that having one would be enough. However, this idea falls when we know more about these items, we read more about them, getting the minor differences between each one. This is the time when hard questions arise. “Shall I sell or trade this pen? But this is different from the others...Shall I start collecting this brand? Ok, I will keep only this model! “. This is the time when we begin to be collectors.

3D rOtring Pamphlet :)

Once the rOtring Silver Trio review is done, which one shall be the next?

rOtring600 Silver Trio Knurled

The first review is for the Queen! For many, the most wanted! The rOtring600 Silver Trio Knurled.

This multi-pen has an industrial look, slightly heavy for writing, weighing 46g (it depends if you like heavy writing tools, or not) and comes in two flavours, matte silver and matte black finish. As the name implies, it has three tips, two ballpoint refills (one red and one blue) and a 0.7 mechanical pencil.

The knurling is on pen's bottom (pen grip) and on the twist mechanism which enables the tip release. The knurling is deeper on old models (e.g. series 1). The series designations are based on observation, rather than a rOtring convention. In this model, the knurling is not so deeper, it's more smooth, in my opinion this pen is from series 2. There are other diferences between the series, like the colour of the red label and rubber ring, ring's position and sizes. I will not enter in details for now, but this will be the subject for one later post.

The barrel is hexagonal to prevent the pen roll in a slightly sloping surface.

I don't know the exact pen's age, however I have one clue. The pen's box, which picture is bellow (and in the pamphlet from previous post) has one inscription on the bottom, "W.Germany". West Germany is the common English name for the Federal Republic of Germany in the period between its creation on 23 May 1949 to German reunification on 3 October 1990, which means this pen is older than 1990.

Definitely, it's a Must Have pen!

Original rOtring600 Pamphlet

To start, nothing better than the original pamphlet of rOtring600 collection. It can be found on the internet, one of the few documents available. Anyone knows the year of this pamphlet??
In the next posts I will present a small review of some rOtring pens/ pencils displayed in this pamphlet, yes I don't have them all, yet! :)

There's one thing in this pamphlet that intrigues me. Why there's a reference to KOH-I-NOOR, in the front cover??

First Post

First post! I'm an engineer and I loveee the rOtring pens, mostly the 600! I started to collect them two years ago and I don't see a way to stop it... My main goal with this blog is to collect and display valuable information about rOtring stuff. I would like to gather the lost history and all the info I can get. Please feel free to help! With texts, catalogues, references, dates, pictures, etc. Contact me!
